Ben is a startup and business lawyer primarily representing technology and emerging companies. Ben’s legal practice involves company formation, corporate governance, equity and debt financings (including venture capital and angel financings), mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions and other commercial and strategic matters. Ben has represented public and private companies in the technology and energy sectors, investment funds, angel investors and entrepreneurs. Ben has also advised blockchain companies on the commercial and regulatory aspects of blockchain token crowdsales (ICOs), establishing cryptocurrency exchanges and various other blockchain projects.
Ben joined the firm in 2016 from Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in Calgary where he primarily advised public companies on equity and debt financings and compliance with securities laws and stock exchange rules.
Ben completed his Bachelor of Commerce (with distinction) in 2010 at the University of Alberta with a focus in Business Law and his Juris Doctor in 2013 at the University of Alberta. Ben was called to the Alberta Bar in 2014 following completion of his articles in Calgary and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2016.
Ben spends much of his free time learning about personal finance, a topic which he is passionate about. He also has an interest in men’s health, and recently authored “Sincerely, Your Prostate”, an illustrated book which brings attention to men’s health through humour.
